‘The Unresolved Borders of Europe’ invites some internationally renowned scholars from different disciplines to engage with the idea that the borders and border areas of Europe are not marginal to the constitution of a European public sphere, but are, on the contrary, at its centre. Debates on the persistence or even re-emergence of internal and external borders in Europe should therefore be the focal point of this discourse. It is indeed the mission of this lecture series to inform and facilitate this discourse.
The lecture series is taking place in Europe’s oldest Euregion - the Euregion Meuse-Rhine - and is directed at anyone with an interest in vital European issues, such as the growing fortification of Europe’s outer borders, the emergence of new social, economic, cultural and political borders in the very heart of its territory, the possibilities of transnational citizenship and a European public sphere.
